‘Consumers prefer businesses with video’

We’ve heard, read and have even said this line so many times now (Guilty as charged)……but is it true?

I took some time out today to do some Google-fu to see if I could get to the bottom of  this well-used statement and here is the TL:DR

‘A Brightcove study found 93% of B2B buyers said video was important in building trust in a business.’ 

This is a MEGA stat. This trust can be the difference between making a purchase or moving on.. People will seek out videos to learn about brands’ products or services which will help them inform purchases as it gives them a clear understanding as they can visualise it themselves.1 in 4 consumers actually lose interest in a company if it doesn’t have video. It’s quite eye-opening. 

– The scientific basis in all this is that people are emotional learners and find it easier to connect with a human on screen, rather than text. From birth we engage with faces and it’s a pivotal part of how we process our information. Whether that’s getting someone from the company in front of the camera, putting a human connection to the brand or getting a few  testimonial videos from customers, it’s all about building trust with potential customers. Video reviews massively influence buying decisions, as they can be more authentic than the brand’s own videos.

We love to learn via stories. There is science to back up that stories form a core part of the conversion process. When learning about a brand or product a video gives people an engaging medium for the story, holding attention for much longer than text or static images. Also when asked, people can recall more information from a video than from a wall of text.
