In this blog, we’re going to give you a brief guide on Getting Started With Instagram Ads, giving you a how to on creating an Instagram advertising campaign.

Firstly you might be asking, why should I advertise on Instagram? We can answer this is a short blog that will take you five mins to read. Here are a few stats that might convince you as to why it’s a great place to push some of your marketing efforts.

91% of Instagram’s user base watches videos on the platform every week

Half the of the users look on Instagram to find more brands and products they want

Hopefully, those 2 mighty stats have gotten you excited to dip your toes into the water so how do you actually do it?

How to advertise on Instagram:

1 – Prepping your account

To create an ad, first you’ll need to get your account ready. If you haven’t done this already you’ll need to make your Instagram into a business account and then connect it to your business Facebook. This is to utilise the Meta Ads Manager to create and run your campaign

2 – Getting your ad content ready

Here is where you can let your creativity run wild. This is the part your customers will see so make sure to create something that will resonate with them.

Remember to shoot this video vertically or with a square frame in mind as this is the format that suits Instagram best, it will display in full size as opposed to a horizontal video which will either be small or cropped in by the app.

Much like when we covered YouTube adverts, here the content can fall into a few categories. Filming yourself talking about your business, voiceover with animation, product video, testimonial-based, creative abstract, or story-driven. What will be best for you will depend on your goals, so have a think of what you’re trying to achieve and work from there.

3 – Setting up your campaign

In ads manager click create, then choose one of the objectives listed that you think best fits your goals for the campaign. These will be objectives like Brand awareness, reach, traffic engagement, etc.

Once you have that selected you can continue and then fill in the details for your campaign. This is where you can set your target audience, budget, schedule, and more.

You can then either let Instagram decide for you or you can manually tell it to push your advert to stories, reels, in-stream ( this will be shown as an ad in a long format Instagram video), explore, and shop ads. There are plenty of options to suit your goals.

Adding in your video

Make sure to specify the Instagram page you want to use for the campaign, put in your amazing advert, and add in a great Call To Action (which is what you want the user to do). Then you can click publish and you’re off to the races!

Measure and Iterate!

This is a critical step in all social ads. It’s not as simple as set it and forget it, you need to monitor and tweak your ad campaign to make sure you get the most out of your budget.

We advise you to check in each week to analyse your analytics and make some informed changes based on these metrics and your real-world results from the campaign.

Bricks Top Tips

Here are a few quick tips to get the most out of your Instagram advert campaign.

  1. Make it Snappy: people are more likely to remember your brand if you use the name in the first 3 seconds.
  2. Always use Captions: You might have found the perfect track to suit your ad and have the best speech but not everyone has audio on in Instagram so your message will be lost if not supported by subtitles.
  3. Make sure it’s in your tone: There’s no point in getting people to your page with an out-there advert if your content and tone are all serious, so make sure your ad matches your brand’s tone of voice.
  4. If you’re running a reel advert, make sure it’s 30 seconds so it doesn’t end prematurely. You can also make it loop with a reel, a fun creative challenge.

We hope with this small introduction we’ve demystified Instagram adverts and you can get your campaign up and running and move you along in your business journey.
